Bronze Statues of Phoenixes
Two statues of phoenixes have been placed on Homei Bridge (“Phoenix Crying Bridge”), which crosses the river in Kanaya-machi, the birthplace of Takaoka metal casting. The phoenixes are derived from the line from Shijing (The Book of Odes) – “Phoenixes cry on that high hill” – from which Takaoka (literally “High Hill”) took its name.
